Mistakes that hold travellers up at Vietnamese immigration

Do not file outside the permitted period and assume the declaration will remain usable. Prepare it during the three days before arrival and use the expected date of entry into Vietnam. Select the first airport where you pass through Vietnamese immigration: for example, a traveller landing internationally in Hanoi and connecting onward to Da Nang enters through Hanoi.

Arrival information does not replace a Vietnam visa or Vietnam eVisa. Copy names in passport order and compare the numbers with the machine-readable information. Check passport validity for the journey rather than discovering a document problem at departure. After submitting the Vietnam entry form, save the QR code on the phone and take a screenshot as backup. Finally, do not use one Vietnam pre arrival confirmation for a whole family. Each traveller, including a child or infant when the process applies, needs their own passport and journey information connected to an individual confirmation.

What is the Vietnam arrival card?

The Vietnam arrival card — more precisely the pre-arrival information declaration, and also called the Vietnam entry form, Vietnam immigration card or Vietnam entry permit declaration — is an electronic form used to provide traveller information before reaching a participating entry point.

It records personal and passport data, relevant visa information, travel dates, accommodation and the first point of entry. The Vietnam pre-arrival card supports immigration preparation but is not a visa, does not grant admission and does not replace any immigration permission required for the passport holder. The declaration is submitted online at prearrival.immigration.gov.vn during the available window, after which the system generates a confirmation QR code.

Vietnam visa and Vietnam arrival card: separate requirements

The Vietnam arrival card is not a visa and does not replace one. Visa requirements depend on nationality, length and purpose of stay. Some visitors qualify for visa-free entry for an applicable short stay, while others need a Vietnam eVisa or another immigration route before travelling. This landing does not sell or include a visa.

The pre-arrival declaration is a separate collection of passenger, passport and journey information. A person who already holds a Vietnam visa or eVisa may still be asked to provide pre-arrival information when using a participating airport. Equally, submitting a Vietnam arrival form does not give someone permission to enter if their passport requires a visa.

The declaration system is at prearrival.immigration.gov.vn. Vietnam’s electronic visa process uses evisa.gov.vn, which is a different service for a different purpose. Check both requirements independently and never treat one confirmation as proof that the other process has been completed.

Is the Vietnam arrival card mandatory?

Since 15 April 2026, international travellers are required to complete the Vietnam pre-arrival declaration before entering Vietnam. The Vietnam arrival card should be submitted online within the 3 days before your scheduled arrival.

After submission, keep the QR code confirmation available with the passport used for the Vietnam entry form. The arrival declaration is separate from any Vietnam visa or eVisa requirement and does not replace the travel permission that may apply to your nationality.
